Tomas Lindahl

Tomas Lindahl is a Swedish-born British scientist specialising in cancer research. A young Lindahl was unenthused about academia, spending his University years listening to jazz music and wine tasting, until a particularly inspirational talk by then professor Einar Hammarsten on DNA research captured his attention.

Over the course of his long career, Lindahl’s research has contributed to the development of life saving technologies, by the discovery that damaged DNA can result in cell death or cancer, but can be corrected by DNA repair enzymes. In 2015, this work on mechanistic DNA repair was recognised with the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
