The rarest wool in the world

THE PURE PLEASURE OF WEARING VICUÑA

The rarest and finest wool in the world, in Ancient times Vicuña was reserved for Incan Royalty and referred to as the “fibre of the Gods”. Wearing woven Vicuña was said to be like wearing a coat of pure gold.

Vicuña fibre is renowned for its extraordinary softness and surprising strength.

Its fibres are incredibly fine, with diameters of around 12 micrometers, much finer than that of any other wool. Vicuña garments are distinguishable by an incredible hand feel and light finish. The durability and exceptional ability to insulate make them a versatile layer for wear throughout the year.

Vicuña wool originates from their namesake llama-like animals in their ancestral home in the Arequipa region of Perù. Adult Vicuñas are sheared only once every two to three years, at the end of the summer months, through an ancient tradition called Chaku. In this ritual, the small, shy animals are gathered from the wild and sheared gently, then released back into nature. The cherished fibre is spun, woven, and finished in Italy.
